'The Wedding Cake' monument, St Cadoc's church Aberpergwm.
This remarkable monument was erected in 1832 by Thomas Williams of Aberpergwm House, in memory of his wife Jane, who died of consumption after a year of marriage.
The monument consisted of three tiers originally and was designed as an elaborate openwork Gothic structure.
It is now Grade 11 listed, but was in very poor condition when I last saw it some months ago in 2011.
This photograph was taken in 1979.
There is a strange, very sad atmosphere here.
I can understand why there are myths and tales among the local community, linking possible underground mysterious tunnels to the now ruined splendour of Aberpergwm House, which stands a short distance from the churchyard.
