Cefn Golau Cholera Cemetery.
Set on the bleak mountainside above Tredegar, the haunting atmosphere bows in deference to a bleak chapter in the history of Blaunau Gwent.
There are only a few gravestones standing now, but this small burial site holds the mortal remains of over two hundred people, vicims of Cholera the 'King of Terrors.'
There were two major outbreaks, one in 1832, the second in 1849. A lesser outbreak occured in 1866.
As the disease spread, scarcely a street in Tredegar remained unaffected. People could appear fit in the morning and be dead by evening.
The disease caused so much fear, few people could be found to help bury the victims.
