This is 'Jo'. Photographed at Barry scrapyard, about 1970.
The tutors at the Barry Summer School photographic course would send us all to this yard filled with rusting steam trains.
We were expecting to do some creative thinking and come away with some great and inspiring pictures.
All of us enjoyed the fun of the day!
We returned to the Summer School darkroom at the end of the day, inspired but very tired.
Mind you, there was nearly always time for a pint of 'Newcastle Brown' and a chat with one of our favourite tutors Heino Johansenn.
Heino was a Latvian who spoke quite poor english. His knowledge of photographic techniques was in the opinion of many of us unsurpassed.
We all thought without exception that he was the greatest. He was quite comical too.
He would address me in front of the class as,
'Mike Collier you old son of gun' and slap me on the back.
Quite a few are the tales I can recall about Heino and the magic of the Barry Summer School.
